U4C Center Impact Program
Women Empowerment & Entrepreneurship Program in Houston (WEPH)
- Houston, TX
Spanish speaking women in Greater Houston are turning business ideas into growing ventures in their own language and with a community behind them. Since 2023, U4C, with Impact Hub Houston, JP Morgan Chase & Co., and Edge Philanthropy, has delivered this trauma-informed, culturally relevant program entirely in Spanish through business education, personalized mentorship, and preparation for access to capital. The program meets each woman where she is, offering a pathway to healing, resilience, and economic independence. Every graduate builds more than a business. She builds stability for her family and opportunity for her community.
The Challenge
One in four Greater Houston residents was born outside the United States, and 68% of those residents come from Latin America. The Hispanic community represents about 45% of the region’s population. Yet 18% of immigrants in the Houston area live below the poverty line, a rate 1.4 times the Texas average.
A study conducted by U4C found that Latina women face compounding barriers: fear, trauma, lack of transportation, language and cultural differences, discrimination, limited access to healthcare, and social exclusion. Together these factors significantly hinder their ability to thrive economically and build resilient futures. Many immigrants and minorities with low socioeconomic status navigate informal economies and often remain uncounted by the Census, which means their needs stay invisible in official data.
The Innovation:
Greater Houston Hispanic women co created this program with U4C, and it is delivered entirely in Spanish by professionals with over 30 years of combined experience in women’s empowerment, economic development, entrepreneurship, and business management. Grounded in Human Centered Design (Hear, Create, Deliver), a philosophy that places women at the core of every session, the curriculum builds on five pillars:
- Personal empowerment
- Entrepreneurship and business education
- Leadership and emotional and integral intelligence
- Growth strategies
- Marketing & communications
Women attend classes at Impact Hub Houston, and beyond the classroom every participant receives personalized mentorship and builds a peer support network that lasts for years.
The Impact
Since 2023, 96.7% of participants have graduated, including 29 women entrepreneurs in 2025 who completed the program entirely in Spanish. Eleven advanced to the competitive Business Mentorship Program, backed by 420 hours of personalized mentorship, and 96% of the 2023 cohort applied their new skills within six months. With 91% saying the program met or exceeded their expectations, these results tell a deeper story: women discovering their confidence and inner strength, and turning both into thriving businesses and lasting economic power for their families and communities.

Looking Ahead
In 2026, we are accompanying WEPH alumni through quarterly gatherings, both online and in person, that reinforce entrepreneurial skills, deepen mentorship, and keep the peer network strong as graduates grow their businesses. This alumni network is becoming a leadership pipeline: graduates return as mentors, speakers, and role models who guide the next generation of women entrepreneurs. Building on this momentum, we are planning a new cohort for 2027 that will welcome more Spanish speaking women into the program, with alumni playing an active role in recruitment, mentorship, and community building.

And it reaches far beyond her home.
This movement is built on a simple truth: when one woman is supported, the impact doesn’t stop with her. It never does. It extends into her children, her neighbors, her community, into families, communities, and futures none of us will fully see, but all of us can help shape.
